- Rye is not a castle, but an old fishing village with cobbled streets and many old buildings preserved from the middle ages
- The clock tower of St Mary’s church is often open to the public and provides a fine view from the top
- Ypres castle next to St Mary’s church is open to the public also
- Camber castle is nearby (a long walk), but only open for guided tours on some summer weekends.
- Winchelsea is a short drive west of Rye
- Parking - Limited street parking in Rye, the large car park near the railway station is a better choice
